She was there already at the First Northsea Jazz Festival in 1976 – Sarah Vaughan, for many one of the greatest living female jazz vocalists. She began her carreer with Billy Eckstine and John Kirby, and went on to become a true vedette, building up an international reputation as a Bebop vocalist, although in recent years she has also made records with such people as Michel Legrand, singing popular songs. She has also recorded with Count Basie, Tadd Damero and Jimmy Jones, amongst others.
